Immersive Environment

Bringing a James Turrell experience into a CMU space.

During the Environments Mini, we were asked to create a pop-up exhibit at the Miller Gallery that featured an artist of our choosing from the Mattress Factory. My exhibit featured James Turrell and utilized an immersive social media projection to get visitors excited the artist and lead them to visiting the Mattress Factory.

Project Brief

This project aimed to expose us to different aspects of environment design through designing a pop-up exhibit on Carnegie Mellon's campus for a particular artist in order to get visitors to go to a local museum where the artist was also being shown.

Designed Space

My designed space incorporated a dark space for users to view a James Turrell piece, a wandering layout to promote discovery, and an immersive social media projection to encourage a digital interaction with the pieces.

After doing the project, we were asked to present our concepts to the class. You can find my presentation below.
